true cold intake in the works and half way done..

I was working on tring to get a true cold intake setup since I owned the truck. Now I am 50% there at least my filter is right behind my pass side headlight.. Wheres the battery at you ask? it's been moved to a better home. Once you see this you will say "why didn't I think of that" I can't wait till it is done.....yea boy:D

Nice work.I know it`s not done.So,I`m curious about details.How you will isolate the underhood heat away from the filter?And,what did you do,cut a hole in the core support?

No I did not cut anything just removing things and relocating them.
I am 75% done now. I am working on the heat shield right now. It is made out of aluminum. Don't worry once this is done it will be worth the view.
It is taking me a little longer than planned but hey I will have a nice clean cold intake setup once it is done:D

Where is the cold air coming INTO the engine compartment for the filter? Usually there is an intro pipe behind the blinker lens...

I got rid of all of that mess and my air comes right through the headlight and turn signal. There is enough of air there IMO. All that space is now open and I am going to have a nice " big air box " that is there.

I was wondering what size is enough? I was thinking of making my 4" but I can get more adapters if I keep it 3''. Looking at the factory setup it goes to 3-4'' (something like that) I wonder what would work best (air flow that is).

Ayone have any opinions/info on this?

I looked at my truck and now I see that the factory hole/inlet is down there below the battery,behind the turn signal.Sounds like a good plan.I can`t wait to see it done.(You and me both,right?)
I wrecked my`95 and never got pictures of what I did.You know how the filter housing inlet goes into the fender?I got an intake grille for a Kenwoth T100 and brought air in straight through the fender.I molded up a funnel(?) to sit inside the fender,behind the T100 grille and attach to the oval inlet (97-up) out of fiberglass.It looked pretty cool.The mesh went with the W/T grille I had on that truck.

I had been thinking of something similar but I was thinking of relocating the battery to the other side. I thought there was a holder behind the driver

I was thking about this plan since I bought this truck back in september/october.( 4-5 months ago). I looked at several diffent pics, options,and ideas. This is what made me do this. I also was tring to figure out what to do with the pass battery? I was going to put it behing the drivers batt but it will not fit there. That is why I moved mine where it is.
Once I am done the batt. will not be getting that much heat. It will be A clean look engine bay. Also you said about the filter setup? I am going to have it that I can use the oem (97-99 round filter)( breathing and filtration are enough with this filter from what I was told and reports that show also).
Also if I do not like this I could use others in its place. There is alot of room there for it/them if I am right.

If there is enough room for the stock canister filter this is really good. I hadn't thought about the extra battery heat but that's a good point. Put a nice heat shield of some type and you should be good to go! Setup really looks awesome!

Well, actually, I did think of that! ;)

I did a very similar thing on my '81 a few years back....

I don't have a pic that shows the finished installation, but I put the battery back in the stock location on top of the air filter, with a screen in the grill to block out the bugs and road debris.
