Most of the time when trying to go back to 2wd I have to back up several times and turn the stearing wheel back and forth to get it to drop out of 4wd. Forward, reverse, neutral, running or off with the key on makes no difference, still sticks. Goes right into 4wd but a bear to get it out of 4wd. Automatic with the 3 button stitch on the dash. Any ideas?
Thanks Dave

However rare, that little electric motor that engages/dis-engages your front diff maybe sticking and in need of replacement. Also check fluid level in frt/diff.
Binding on hard surfaces will also cause this problem.
I have had two rigs here at the ranch that have had the electric 4x4
The one that comes to mind was a 92 Bronco that had the electric controls.
It would do that and ya just had to fiddle with it.
The electric motor gets weak and will not pull the unit out.
Also depending on which case it has there may be a spring assembly that does the actual disengaging.
The motor pulls the shift rail back to a predetermined point and the coil spring assembly will do the rest and if it has pressure on it it can't do it.
Try this test.
Get the sucker stuck in 4x4 then have a helper run the 4x4 controls while you listen by the case and see if the motor runs when its activated.
If the motor runs from 4x to 2x position then its most likely another issue such as the spring assembly.
Hope this helps.
Might be a good idea to check the repair book and see what the thing looks like inside too
