I am looking at a 2001 2500HD D/A auto, 4x4, pw, pl, with 114,000 miles on it. It is for sale at a local equipment dealership and asking $18,500.00. Any one know if that is a decent price for this truck. Is it worth paying $18,500 for a truck with 114,000 miles on it and possible future problems??? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

thanks,
Kirk

I've found some reg cab 02' w/ 130k-140k for $12-$14K. I'd say $18500 is a little high,,, Just my thoughts though.

A little high, but a great value for the potential miles left in the truck.

Regular or extended cab? Warranty injectors done yet? Good tires?

I'd try to buy it for around 15K if its in good shape and well maintained, or less if it needs things like brakes, rear seals, etc. Don't forget about the transfer case leak problem. Its probably due for a rear case half by now.

Personally, I'd rather spend my money on an '02 LB7 with more highway miles than start/stop shop truck miles. You might want to keep shopping if this one was used to run parts short distances, or has lots of cab wear and bed rash.

Do a quick search on Ebay on "2001 Duramax" and you can get a good baseline on what this year/make/model can be bought for.

the truck is extended cab with spray in bedliner. They tell me that it was a salesmans truck and are checking to see what service has been done to it. I appriciate the info. I will keep looking. I would probably have a regular cab anyway, but everyone is always looking for a deal!! I was told to get the LB7 because of better fuel economy, but I don't know if that is true or not... Thanks again for all of the help!!!!!:D

Extended cabs would bring $1000-1500 more than a regular cab, which is about 10% of this transaction. Have them supply the VIN and have it checked at a Chevy dealer for warranty work history, if any.

LB7 fuel economy is real over later years, some drawbacks with '01s-'03s and injectors, but mostly its fuel quality related and you have warranty coverage to 200K anyway.

Good luck...

Thanks for the info. It helps when I am shopping around to have a price in my head that these vehicles should go for. I saw a 2002 D/A regular cab 4x4 with 88,000 miles but they want $22,000 at a chevy dealer. I need to be more patient and see what comes available.:o

Be prepared to spend $5K on the injectors at any time on one of these trucks, even if the injectors have been replaced. If you look at the injector surveys, many of the trucks have had injectors replaced more than once.

Isn't there a warranty on those injectors? 200,000miles??? What would be the best year to buy??? I would like to get decent fuel economy with out much modification. I use it for farming and driving to work. I do trenching work on the side and pull about 8,000lbs a couple times a month. I am open to suggestions...

The warranty is limited to seven years. After that, the injectors are yours. A 2006 truck only has about a year left on the warranty. You might get lucky and not have any problems, but then again you may not!
