View Full Version : new wheels for 3500HD
I am getting ready to order the new 2007 3500HD and would like to put a nice set of wheels on it when it comes in. So far the only ones that I have been able to find that have a weight rating equal to or better than the factory's ( 2689) is Alcoa's.
Has anyone found anything else??
Evidently Aluminum is out just because they don't have a high enough rating.
Thanks

SRW or DRW? What tire size/rating are you wanting to use?
If DRW, that rating is just fine. You won't have tires rated higher than that in a 16" dual (that's the other weight rating on the sidewall), and it is also higher than your axle rating (front or rear). If you need a higher rating, look at 19.5" wheels. There are some available requiring adapters, and others that bolt right on.
If SRW, you must be looking at the wrong wheels. The OEM aluminums (2500HD) are rated much higher than that, and many folks run 265's on them with no problems. Centerline has a high rated "Extreme Duty" forged aluminum line with much higher ratings as well. I have a set on mine. Check out the "Truck stuff pics" in my sig.

My ALCOA wheels 16" x 7" 8 lug are rated 3,750 lb ea. Try Rickson http://www.ricksontruck.com/
In this last issue of Diesel Power magazine, the two Duramax competitors on the East Coast power competition BOTH had H2 factory rims (aluminum) with GMC stock centercaps. They were both very heavy duty, and had no problems with wheels/tires. One of them was the competition winner too.
Now, can anybody tell me if the late model "chrome" GMC/CHEVY centercap will fit in the H2 factory rim without modification? I already have the rims on my 94 GMC K2500, and am very happy with them, but want to put centercaps on to finish it off. I am using 265/70R17 michelins.
The H2 centercap has "HUMMER" molded (reverse/down) in them. I can either fill the word in and make it generic or can buy the GMC new model 200?-on and try that. My original black center cap (stock steel rim) did not fit, just a little too big to seat into the center cap area.
thanks!!

i have the hummer(17") wheels and caps..no one has ever given me a bad comment on the wheels..i drilled out the rear caps to clear the axles.
Spongebob, please post a picture if convenient for you.
So you milled the H2 centercaps? Like a doughnut hole?

i'll see if i can get a picture, and yes, i found a hole saw that just did match the size of the axle..it sticks through maybe 1/2"..

You should try to this website. Diesel trucks are a big scene here in Miami, and parts of South Florida.
http://www.dieselwheels.net
but a lot of those trucks are way overboard, they have at a minimum 600 horsepower, and over 1000ft-lbs. That place has been the diesel performance place for a long time, rich people with lots of money to spend on toys so they can tow their huge powerboats. Hope that helps you out.
Only the chrome center caps that come with the forged aluminum wheels(2500HD) will fit the H2 rims with only cutting off the 4 nubs so they will thread on the lug nuts farther. The chrome center caps off the steel wheels won't work, they are bigger in diameter by about 1/2".
