2WD 700R4 to 4x4 700R4

Hello I have a 2WD Sub. with 6.2 and 700R4 I am going to transplant into a Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4x4. My question in how hard is it to change the 2wd 700r4 into a 4x4 version. Does it just involve replacing the tailshaft and tailshaft housing or is it more complicated then that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes you have to replace the output shaft, but in order to do that you have to take the whole trans apart. If you were going to rebuild the tranny anyway then no problem. The 2wd tail shaft would have to be replaced with a short 4wd version which actually serves as the mounting point for the crossmember. This peice is what the transfer case bolts to as well. No other changes to the trans it self are needed, other than a different speedo gear I think

If you are going to use the Jeep transfer case, just tell the adapter mfg (Advance or Novak) that you are using a 2wd trans and they will get you the correct pieces.
