Does anyone know where to get the best buy on a OBD II tool?? I want one that I can use on my '96 6.5 , and on other gas vehicles too. Do the ones that interface with a Palm tool work for 6.5 timing procedures ??? I have priced the OTC tools in years past, and they are up there- too much for the occasional user, like me. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Check out AutoTap (http://www.autotap.com/welcome.html), it may be what you're looking for.

I have the OBDscan tool from http://www.ghgcorp.com/dharrison/obdscan.html that interfaces with a palm pilot or laptop, It works with all OBDII vehicles, I have not used any others so I have nothing to compare it to but I have been pleased with it.
It does not have the capibility of setting the offset.

I don't know, because my truck is OBD I and AutoTap only works on OBD II. Others on this page have it and use it. Hopefully, one of them will chime in. Otherwise call AutoTap and ask them.

Autotap is read-only - it will not command ANY functions, including TDC Learn.

I had autotap over a year ago - it was not reading TDC Offset correctly, so I returned it instead of waiting for them to correct it. They may have fixed the problem by now - but I would check with someone who uses the current version to be sure. They are aware of the problem, you could call the tech line at B&B Electronics to see if they've fixed it yet. Even then - it may not read that value correctly.......
