Hi guys. I just got a 98 4X4 3500 SRW and it needs new tires. It has 4.10's in it and I want to tone down the rpms. I am thinking about a set of 255-85-16's because I think they would fit with no modifications. I wouldn't mind a 285-75-16 but I think I may need to do some trimming or get a front leveling kit. What are your thoughts on those lift kits that give you a 2" block in the rear on offset cams for the torsion bars? Do they mess up the front end? I hate to get new tires, and then just chew them up. I can't afford the full blown 4-6" lifts that are out there. For a 1-ton, this truck sure seems to sit low.
Thanks.

I run 285/75/16's under all kinds of conditions w/o lift but trim some.
Frt bumper can be trimmed about 1" at edge of fenderwell, or you can shim it forward w/washers, or short lengths of pipe maybe still use same bolts.
Rear of fenderwell from about mid well height down to rocker needs to be trimmed, or rolled on a taper from zero at mid height rear fender well to about 2" at bottom of rear fender well.
You may have to adjust the above more or less but it works, been running em for some time now.
Back of truck needs nothing to run 285's
Smallest rim for 285's would be 7" which is .50" narrower than recommended width, I use ALCOA 16"x7" all around their capaticy is 3750 lb load rating ea.

I ran 285/75's on my 96 just needed to trim the fender flare at the inside corners. I just used a pocket knife didn't need much.
just picked up a 93 ext. cab long box HD and i want to lift it just a bit. they sit a little low compared to the rest of the big diesels around here in central alberta and i have been looking at the 2"-2.5" lifts with new torsion keys and either blocks or springs for the rear they are really cheap. So will it work seeing that it is a small amount of lift? I am running 2005 aluminum chev take off's with 275/85 goodyear MTR's. Any thoughts?
