I'm guessing that I can go w/higher output on second alternator 170 amp maybe 200 amp, have 105 amp on burb now, or is this a bad idea?

be carefull when going with big alt's and not have a lot of battery I have fryed a few batterys with my 150 amp alt in my camaro. interstate told me that for an alt that big I needed two bats. and I asked them what they recomended for dual 250's they told me 4 group 31 starting batterys. so on my truck I have 4 group 31 bats and have, had ZERO problems(in my offroad rig).

looking at upgrading the diesel to dual 200's but I would be upgrading the batterys as well.

I would think that one good alternator should cover most all but maybe tow truck or ambulance duty and they really only need duals for idle/low speed.

Considering, some of the remote places I find myself I'd like to have a better margin of reliability. Been thinking manual switch to run 1 or both alt's at once.

As for batteries, I wonder if I really need 4 like suggested in post above?

Idle circuit switch hack from JK's site is always good too.
