View Full Version : Expected Life for DS4 Stanadyne?
Just curious what life expectancy is for a DS4 5521 Stanadyne pump? I'm closing in on 125k and starting to see some codes. I've improved all the grounds, etc., so beginning to believe it might be a tired one. Just never heard what the original life target for this pump was.

My truck's real life experience is just under 100,000 for 2 different pumps.

I've heard of DS4's with more than 250K on them. One guy didn't know there was a problem with the DS series in general... :)
Fuel quality (mostly cleanliness & lubricity) has an impact on life of the fuel lubricated components, but the electronics are the biggest concern.

One of our longtime members (Don Vedder) renewed the other day. Here's what he said at that time:
Still driving the 98' 2500 Ext. cab. I think you have some pics. of it when I was by your place several years ago. 310K on truck. Only major item I've replaced is the injector pump @247K. Did the vaccum pump about a week ago.....Don't they make anything that lasts nowadays!!!...LOL. Thanks for your web support for our vehicles.
Thanks for the input! I spent Saturday cleaning up the grounds (again) and replaced one of the ground straps as it looked a little weak. They connect the RH rear passenger side head stud to the firewall and frame. Ran 40 miles with no codes which looks like progress.
Some other posts indicated the pump solenoid driver voltage they measured was not matching battery voltage - response changed with full battery voltage. I've rewired my truck to feed the lift pump and transmission power with relays and seems the fuel system / lights, and ECM should have the same. Taking the load off of the ignition switch seems to make a lot of sense too.
I have 181,000 miles on current pump (#2) first replaced @28K by GM.

353,000 on motor and trans. 286,000 on IP changed module few weeks ago with old one no problems. Injectors replaced at 250,000 didn't need it though.
