I have heard a rumor that the new 2500/3500 Silverados and Sierras will not have the GMT900 frame, but a revised GMT800 frame. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Interesting question. GM has already indicated they will use the 800 frame in the GMT-900 2500 series Suburbans. This could also mean they'll use the earlier frames in the HD trucks, but I haven't seen anything mentioned in the docs yet. The 1500 series trucks/SUVs got a coil-over front suspension and rack-n-pinion steering, which required significant frame mods. I wouldn't consider the 800 frame a negative for the new HD trucks.

I thought the purpose of the new GMT900 was that it was stronger. I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 brochure and it says it has a new full-boxed frame which is thicker and 230 percent torsionally stiffer that the previous generation. Why wouldn't they use that on the HD trucks too, if the rumor is true?

Comparing the 1500's and 2500's with the HD series is like apples and oranges. I can't imagine needing an HD frame more rigid or stronger than what we have now. Compare the two side by side, and you'll have no doubts. I haven't heard of a single issue with the current HD frame, and we have lots of folks here that have put them to the test, including me. Also, the HD frame is boxed where it needs to be.

Remember that when the GMT800s came out in MY 1999, it was only in the 1500/2500 line. The then 3500 and 3500HD continued to be GMT400s until MY 2001. Perhaps they will use the same staggered release this time?
