Water in Tank

I was recently given my first diesel. An 82 3/4 ton PU and have been trying to get it running right. I believe there is water in the gas tank but do not know how to tell or drain. any help?

The 82s had a water sensor in the fuel tank, and a drain valve on the framerail ahead of the tank. If the WIF light doesn't come on, or if you don't trust it, just drain about a pint of fuel on a regular basis.

Thanks I"ll give it a go. I do not trust most of the dash guages except the speedo and temp (which I replaced).
