View Full Version : ?? Trading '01 for '07
I have a few questions for the smart ones here. I will be trading in my '01 for an '07 this week. (3500 dually, CC, DMAX/Allison). With the '01, I had to break the rear end in 500 miles before towing. Is this still recommended? Also, Do they recommend a rear lube change at 500 mi.? Any other things with the '07 I need to worry about? '01 has been a great truck. 101,000 miles and the only problem I had was neutral safety switch went bad about 15k ago. Other than that, have gotten 6 yrs of loyal service out of it pulling at least 10k trailer daily!

The rear end on the '07 will be the same as the '01. GM's recommendations have changed somewhat, but it's still the same axle. I recommend the same break-in, and early lube change, as we've discussed since before 2001.. I've seen too many later model axles with the paint burnt off the cover, due to little/no break-in, and no lube change, all according to GM's service recommendations.
I've put on over 110K of hard miles on mine, and the paint is still there, in tact. I don't think they changed the paint forumula.

I would run it short distances at light loads for the first few hundred miles, change the fluid around 300~1000 miles in the Tcase (get a few miles with it in 4x4 even if its just dirt roads), Rear end and motor oil . Once you done this , hook up and go, Work it hard set the rings early.... You will be suprized to see the color of the fluids that come out! Change your fluids one more time early like around 2000 miles then get on a reg schedual.
