First off, let me say that I am new to this bulletin board but I have frequented TheDieselPage.com for a few years now and look forward reading about the diesel pull off every year.

Back to my question. About six months ago I bought a 2000 Silverado 2500 4x4 extended cab, long bed with a five speed. While thumbing through the towing section of the owners manual I noticed that it lists a tow rating of 10,500lbs for 6.5L TD equipped Silverados. When I looked under the hood I found a belt routing diagram for gas V6s and V8s as well as for a diesel. This was the first time I had ever heard of a diesel in a 99-00 Silverado. I also just recently purchased a factory service manual for my truck and have not found any reference to a diesel engine. Is anybody aware of any 6.5s being installed in the 99-00 Silverado 2500s?

Also, what exactly is a C6P chassis?

The 6.5 I believe was an option up through 2000
The D MAX was being pushed so you never heard anything more about the 6.5.
The factory manual should be available through Helm
The engines should all be listed in the book too.
Could be you will have to use a 98-99 book.
Talk to your GM shop and see what gives, they will know for sure.
C6P does not ring any bells with me. Some other folks here may know

C6P designates the 8600 GVWR chassis 2500, or 2500HD, for that M/Y. A C5Z would be a 7200 GVWR chassis, which means 2500 Light Duty.

The 6.5 TD was offered through M/Y 2000 in the "Classic Body", even though GM went to the newer body style for the rest of the truck line. As of M/Y 2001, the "Classic" was discontinued, along with the 6.5.

I knew that it was still offered in the "Classic" pickups. It just seemed odd that I had found towing capacities and diagrams under the hood of a Silverado, which I had never thought to be offered with a diesel. I can remember playing on the Chevy web site back in '99-00 and only finding the 6.0 as the available engine. I've since found out that the 5.3 was available in some 2500s as well as the stuff I've found on the 6.5 though I've never seen one running around. I've scoured my service manual some more and still haven't found any reference to a 6.5 there either... I'd e-mail GM and ask them but I'll probably get some standard corporate form letter thanking me for expressing interest in their vehicles.

My uncle has a 2001 (the carry-over year) K3500 CC with the 6.5TD, 140.000 kms in five years, not bad. So yeah, the 6.5 was offered throughout the whole GMT 400-style truck line-up. I mean, how could they not offer a diesel engine in their trucks at all time?

(First post, woho! :p)

The 90s body style was code named GMT-400. The 1999-2006 body style is GMT-800, and the newest 2007 model-year GM trucks are GMT-900. :)
