you need any cartridge that covers your year and GM engine/drivetrain.

There are several that can do the job..

Tech1 cartridges will work in the 1A

I have a cartridge with P/N 02002462 it covers all 81-97 drivetrains for Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

Cruise Ebay etc...do searches for vetronix, tech1, tech1a..

they do show up...buy them as soon as you see them.

Also I know some folks here have been messing with a program that mimics the vetronix software...you run it off a laptop.

Do a search and you'll find all sorts of talk about that.

good luck

If you have a laptop....the software version of the tech1a doesnt sound that unreasonable.

i picked up a tech1 for $300 plus the drivetrain cartridge for $60.

this has paid for itself many times over...

because your looking for bi-directional control you are out of the cheapo $100 scanner range.

good luck...ask around

When I was bidding on a Tech 1A on E-Bay, I contacted Vetronix and got the name of their local rep. He was a wealth of info and after I bought the unit, he stopped by and helped me get it going. These reps also have access to used equipment at some good prices.

I bought a Tech1A on E-Bay for a little over $500. I needed a module that cost $200. So I have around $700. in mine. The module that I bought goes up to yr 2000. I was told by the rep that he could have set me up with one for I believe it was through yr 95 for $500.00

It pays to find a rep and see what he has available.

The module that goes up to 2000 is the one that covers ODBII. There is a cartridge that will cover up to but not including the ODBII engines. I have both but can't post the number right now. I believe the ODBII one is powered off the jack and you have to have the power cable to operate it with the non ODBII cartridge.
