View Full Version : Rear seal on transfer case leaking on 2006
I have a 2006 with LBZ and allison six speed, with around 3000 miles when changing oil today noticed rear seal on transfer case was leaking not much but enough that I could see where it had blown back on the rear diff a bit. I checked oil level and it was fine. anyway wondering if anybody else has had this problem? also I have bigger than stock tires on the truck and am wondering if i should put smaller tires on before taking it in. My dealer told me if I had any drive train problems i should change tires, but wondered if they will say my bigger tires (285's) caused the leak.

I suggest changing the tires. Your dealer doesn't care (officially) whether or not the tires might have caused the problem. They have a directive from GM that orders them to NOT accept drive train warranty complaints if the vehicle has larger than OEM tires.
No. Your tires did not/can not cause the Xfer case to leak. Even so, GM's policy is to deny claims with larger tires on the truck.
Outside of that, it is up to your service manager. Sounds like you already have your answer. He's already advised you about the tires. They can be anal, and enter a permanent record of your tire size, which brands you, no matter which dealer you visit. With that dealer, I wouldn't take a chance of them servicing it with those tires on.
My dealer doesn't care about the tire size. I've had mine in several times with 285's on. It varies from dealer to dealer.
