as anyone modded there 82 to 84 glow plug controler by adding a resistor to the wire that supplies current to the heating element in the controler? I read it was a resistor soldered to the (I think blue wire) but I do not know the resistance can anyone help?

Haven't tried this mod, but I've seen it mentioned somewhere before, just not sure where...

In looking at the diagram in the R&R guide covering the 82-84 controller, it would appear that Pin 4 would be the one to add a resistor to. I'm unsure of the color, but the pins are marked on the head of the controller.

Make sure that you have at least 60g's installed before attempting this mod.

Personally, I'd install a button inside that allows you to manually add glow time after the controller goes off, to help you get it started. This also works well as a backup if the engine mounted controller fails.

The Relay is on the fender and all you need to do is provide power to the red lead.

I have the 60g installed it seems they do not heat up as fast as the origional plugs hence the thought of the resistor. the truck starts good but living in northern canada can present some starting issues, I'm going to start installing a webasto heater this evening, a friend installed one last year in his 6.5 its nice to jump into a warm truck in the morrning!
