Couldn't get a straight answer from any "reliable" sources. The few dealer I spoke with have been replacing the fluid with Dex III, and only one had Dex VI on the shelf, but didn't know what the app. was.
Definately not Transynd. Transynd is recommended by Allison for MD/HD applications. It just happens the Allison tranny used in our trucks is on Allison's list for Transynd use, but the application does not include pickups. Also, none of the service extensions apply to 2500HD/3500 trucks, and the 4500+ trucks are a gray area. The Allison warranty extension is also not available in pickups. The TES 295 rating doesn't apply to Light trucks. Although Transynd is (IMO) a better fluid than Dex III, GM doesn't "officially" acknowledge or recommend it. Dex VI is semi-synthetic.

All '06 models use Dexron VI. I was surprised to see they still recommend Dex III in the transfer case.
What about Mobil Dexron V? It is full synthetic.
