View Full Version : Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve
Hello,
Where have most people purchased a new FPRV? I have seen them as much as $450 from the dealer to $375 from online vendors to $233 from GM Parts Direct.
Is part number 97728979 correct for a 2001?
Thanks,
Corey
Just curious what the issue is? Surging idle?
I have a nasty surge that is getting worse, especially when cold. The SES came on due to the DTC code P0089A. I looked that up in my manual and it corresponds to "Fuel rail pressure sensor indicates a pressure more than 20 mPa greater than desired."
According to the Scan tool, while idleing, the pressure fluctuated between 29 and 41.
If the vacuum test for the fule filter checks out okay, the next step is to replace the FPRV.
Does this make sense?
Thanks for the help,
Corey

Hey Guys,
Well now in addition to my slowly leaking water pump, yesterday I got a check engine light. Pulled codes and got a P0089, fuel pressure. Background, all 8 injectors have been done in the last 18 months, I have a CAT filter setup and a lift pump and run Primrose fuel treatment. Both the CAT and the stock filter were replaced a few months back. The truck has had a surge at idle noticeable from in the cab with windows rolled up and stereo on. Even with new injectors the truck seems sluggish lately.
Question: should I replace the FPRV or the high pressure pump, should I get an ECM retune or is that only for the '01 LB7? How about the high pressure pump? I also have a Kennedy fuel pressure gauge I can use to check the pressure but haven't checked that yet, not sure what I should look for?
Thanks,
Matt

In my experience with surges it has always been due to the fuel pressure regulator sticking. If you have access to a tech2 scanner you can graph the fuel rail pressure and if it is a jagged saw tooth type pattern the regulator is sticking. You want to see a nice smooth wave form with a properly working regulator.
