Is a 93 6.2 in a 3500 van mechanically or electrically controlled? Is the transmission a 700r4 or a 4L80E. I can't picture a 700 in a one ton van with a diesel engine, but I should ask.

All 4L80s are electric, or are some mechanical with an electric switch to lockup the converter? Could the engine be mechanical and the tranny electric with a stand alone computer? I am being told there is some sort of computer under the seat.

Anything in particular I should consider for this vehicle? I figure the last year fo the 6.2 ought to have most of the problems worked out, especially if it is mechanical injection.

Thanks for any info you can offer.

A '93 6.2 will be mechanically injected, there were no electronic 6.2's. So that's the good news.

I'm also pretty sure that you have a 4L80E transmission. This transmission is electronic and is controlled by a TCM, that in your case will be underneath somewhere.

The transmission get's most of it's data from the TPS mounted on the injection pump.

Should be a pretty decent van!

Thanks

Not completely sure if it's a 4L80 or 700 or something else?

What if it is a half ton, do you change your mind on the answer?

1/2 ton would make a huge difference. Could be a 700R4, 4L60E, or 4L80E. It's hard to say about the vans, especially during the "transition" years, like 1993. Check your RPO sticker for the tranny that came OEM.

MT1=4L80E
M30=4L60E

I don't remember what the RPO should be for the 700R4 in later years (it changed a couple times), but it will be "none of the above". If it has a 700, it will have a TV cable (looks like a "kick-down" cable on older autos) attached to the left side (driver) of the intake manifold, and connected to the injection pump. The cable will go to the tranny, so don't confuse it with the pedal cable.
