I have started putting my block together and checked my ring gap and bearing clearences. My piston ring gaps are fine for all rings but my top compression rings. Their gaps are 24-26 thousandths in the front 6 cylinders and 28 thousandths on the back two. The book I have calls out 20 to 22 thousandths max depending on the year. My block is bored .020 over, so should I buy new top rings for .030 over and grind them down or will this larger gap do nothing significant?

Thanks,
Kyle

Use the rings you have as long as they are for a .020 overbore.
The small amount extra will not hurt you at all.
Just be sure you place the ring end gaps properly around the piston as shown in the book.
This is important for oil control as well as blow by control
