I've been successful in the past for different parts using a site called car-part.com. It's a search engine for thousands of auto recyclers(junkyards). It will let you search for the specific part you are looking for.
I just searched and 4 pages of results came up. One place at the bottom of the page lists one from a 97 3500 series truck and includes a one year warrenty for $115. These are diesel ecm's.

Is a 3500 better then a 2500 ECM?

same program for 3/4 & 1 T but what you want is 99-01 which has HD fuel program up to 76mm

Is this true?

Fred on that one I'm not sure I've seen it posted before, mine was 98 to 99 upgrade.

Freddy

16216588 is the part number you should be looking for. I have also been down this road and came up short. I bought an ECM and had it programmed with the upgraded fuel curve (2000 L65).

Then I found out about Passlock...

You will need to swap out the steering column like William did. Nobody will bypass the security feature.

But if you figure it out...

Well, anyway, now I have a core for a reflash.
