No turbo? No whistle lately.

I read in one of the threads about checking for turbo operation and can't find it. I have a '96 6.5 Turbo auto, dually, FSD cooler and power is sh@t lately. I haven't heard the turbo for some time and when I added the FSD/cooler I noticed the vacuum line to the boost sensor was cracked. That was replaced along with a new sensor for grins. No improvement but the stalling problem is gone. I have a new boost, pyro and trans gauge going in soon but I'm not patient. Any easy way to check for turbo/wastegate problems? With engine off, you should be able to move the arm on the turbo easley. With engine running, it should be very stiff.

With a vacume gage you should see about 21 vac at waste gate solinoid. The rigid lines are very brittle over time and will crack just moving them around.

and of course, check your air filter......

If still no joy, check exaust for back pressure.
