How many times are the glow plug lights supposed to turn on and off? I recently replaced the glowplug relay because sometimes the plugs wouldnt cycle at all and the truck wouldnt start. The problem is fixed but the plug light goes on and off 8 times or so. Before it only used to go on and off twice. was it half-assing it before? lol I'm getting the truck painted next week so I want to make sure everything is in good shape mechanically before I drop $1800 on paint. Thanks!

Probably a failed or disconnected temp sensor. W/o a working temp sensor, the controller will cycle like it's -40

Most likely a failed ground wire in the harness for the controller.

Sometimes it's the wire that comes off the alternator to the controller, this will need to be tested.

Same problem with Dad's '83 Gvan, it's got the 85+ controller now...

8 cycles isn't normal, this symptom will likely lead to the controller coming on while driving and the engine is up to normal operating temperature, and can start "sticking" and burn your plugs up, don't ask how i know...
