Anyone have suggestions for cooling. Engine Specs: 6.5 peninsular marine turbo in a 1972 Suburban. I am running a Duramax fan with John Kennedy fan clutch mated to a big block Radiator. The engine and trans have auxilary coolers. The problem; pulling on a hot day (100+/-) the temp reaches 230 and would continue to rise if I didn't let off. The engine currenly has 2200 miles on it. It has all the power I need when the weather is cool. Since I vacation in the summer I need to solve the problem. Thanks

Tank,
Congratulations on your swap. Bet you get a few looks at the pumps.
First item: you have a RobertShaw thermostat installed? This will allow more flow into the radiator. This also complments the Kennedy fan clutch you have. Prestone (current label) also has 160 - 190* available . I'm currently running the 180 in my 83CC. Single 'stat, original housing. I think the owners manual calls for about a 160*F. Do you have the 2 thermostat crossover installed ?
I wonder if the Rad Hose inlet and outlet, being smaller than the Diesel model ( 1 5/16" vs 1 3/4") is acting as a restriction to the coolant flow? If you have the HO pump, the restriction could be something to think about.
The stock radiators from the 1980's were 34" wide, 6" wider than yours, but they had to handle both oil coolers in the tanks.
It sounds like that you have installed most all the recomended cooling upgrades .
Here are a couple of items to check that helps the cooling system. Clean out the bugs, leafs, and other debrie that gets caught in and between the rad(s) , Ya know, the standard cooling stuff.

Intercooling will help considerably. You might also consider using a radiator from a late model Diesel application. Read the articles in my signature for more information on my bout with overheating.

Thanks for the information I appreciate not having to re-invent the wheel. Some info I left out; currently running hi-flow 180 stats, I like the 195's better an will switch before next summer. How much cooler do you think I would run with intercooler? And number two do you think once the motor is broken in completely I will run cooler.
Thanks

You mentioned pulling? What are you pulling?
If this is empty, you got's a problem.
I'm assuming that you're running serpentine belt setup, because you are running KD's clutch and a dmax fan.
What's your boost pressure?
How large is the radiator? I'll bet that it's not quite large enough for the diesel application, many BB radiators are not quite big enough, need a 3 core or better radiator with many rows.
RJ is right in that you probably need to source installing a radiator out of a similar year to your 6.5. A 6.2 radiator (the HD one) or a 6.5 radiator would probably fit the bill. A custom radiator (aluminum) could also be sourced of larger capacity to fit your dimensions, but be thicker.
Do you have an EGT gauge installed?
