Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of changing my water pump on my 85 6.2 Turbo. The coolant that came out of the radiator is a muddy rusty brown (almost milkshake) color. Is this indicative of anything?? The oil is fine and when I unbolted the water pump some coolant spilled out that was a nice green color. There didn't seem to be hardly any residue inside of the engine cooling passages and the radiator looks to be in good shape. Any thoughts??

Thanks!

If the mud you got was from the radiator drain, it's normal for a high miler. The radiator tank will retain sediment. The good indication is the healthy green coolant inside the engine.

Also "stop leak" type things will do the same thing, and form sediment at the bottom of the radiator tank as you've seen. Bars leak (emulsified) comes to mind here...
