View Full Version : OEM part # for starter motor?
Hello friends,
I have gone back to my roots and bought a ol' 6.2 Chevy pickup, but it needs some TLC to bring back to life. Does anyone out there know the OEM part number for a starter for a 1984 Chevy 1/2 ton with a 6.2? I searched the forum(s), but didn't find anything. The Delco part number would sure be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

10465054 --The same for all years.
I have a silly question concerning my starter swap:
1. This truck I just bought and working on is a 1984 1/2 ton 4x4. I have unhooked all the wires to the starter and have the 2 mounting bolts removed as well as the support bracket bolt. My problem is... I cannot get the starter to slide out from underneath the truck. There isn't enough clearance between the front axle (4X4) and the engine oil pan. This is such a silly problem, but what am I doing wrong? Does the flywheel cover and/or font driveshaft need to be removed? Thank you

I think you'll find that if you slide the starter towards the front of the truck and tilte the back side of the starter upwards that you can coax the starter nose out of it's hole. There is always a "sweet spot" where they'll come out.
You can remove the transmission inspection cover, but it's kind of and added pain due to the many bolts and the support brackets that attach to the motor mounts. But if necessary, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Lots of times the suspension is so worn out that it sags too much. If you jack up the truck by the frame, not the axle. You should gain a few inches of clearance.
You were exactly correct. The suspension is sagging enough, the starter wouldnt clear the frame. Once I jacked up on the frame, all was better. Thank you for the help (once again)
