Hi there,
Newby to the forum. I have jus purchased a Motor Cruiser with a V8 6.2 L engine (same as HumVee). Having trouble starting, seems to turn over okay, fire into life and then just stop as soon as my hand leaves the ignition. Almnost as if a governor is kicking in and cutting it off. Engine hasn't been run in about 6 months. Any clues/suggestions?

Sounds as though you're getting air into the fuel system.
Check for any fuel leaks on any lines either in the supply or return to the tank.
The injection pump can also be known to leak at the throttle shaft (this is located at the front of the intake manifold), check for wet or seeping areas.

Thanks John will give it a try tomorrow am.
Will it restart if you try the switch again??
If it will be sure you have 12 volts to the IP when the switch is in the run position. If you dont have the power in the run position you may have a switch issue.
the 12V line is the one large wire to the front of the pump. There is also a smaller wire to the side that controls the cold advance and there should be a fast idle solenoid too. The advance and the fast idle run through a temp switch in the head and cut off after the engine warms a bit.

Thanks for your help guys. This is a new engine that hasn't been fired up for a hell of a long time. It has been put in a Fairline Sprint 23ft boat in place of a Volvo petrol engine and is attached to the the original Volvo outdrive leg with duo prop. My father and I managed to bleed a bit of air, fire it up and keep it there but it sounds like it is "hunting" so we are going to put some injector cleaner through it in the morning.
We were worried about constantly trying to start it as the boat is now on the water and it would be difficult to charge the battery again if we drained it. Very difficult to access all areas of engine due to limited room in engine bay. Can anyone recommend a good set of schematics or maintenance manuals for GM 6.2l V8 that I can buy online as I live in Scotland?

Try www.helminc.com. Helm produce reprints of the original service books. I bought a set for my 'Burb, and they have been extremely useful. The cost was around $120 US, but I received a book of schematics, a general service manual, and a component repair manual. Definitely a worthwhile investment. Best of luck!
