Has anyone ever had to change the Powertrain Command Module PCM (computer) on a K1500 Silverado or similar.
If you have perhaps you can answer some questions I have.
Where can these be sourced?
Can they be repaired?
What is the price range?
What else needs to be done if this is replaced?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

In order.

Yes, it has been done.

Junkyards sometimes have them. Dealers can get them.

Usually not. If you have something mundane like a broken connector and you are very good with a soldering iron, but usually there are not user repairable parts.

from free (if your lucky) to over $400 if you get it from a dealer.

The ECM is usually the most robust part of the vehicles electrical system. What make you think yours is defective?

Please see Post " Help 6.5 TD Problems"
Have had all sorts of bad advice, when you own an American vehicle in Australia it is hard to get good help.
Have had prices quoted up to $17000 to repair vehicle.
Still think it is a program problem but can't locate anyone with the right equipment or knowledge.
Hoping to get the right advice from these pages, thanks for replying.

Before you replace anything check the harness and pin connectors at the pcm. If it is the type that is installed above the front footwell then someone sitting there may have pulled on the harness by stretching out their legs resulting in pins being pulled from the sockets to the pcm even though the sockets are plugged in pcm. Been there done that, so, look carefully at this area first..............

Take a look on Ebay, save a search & check it daily.

I bought one to use as a core to have re-flashed so I would be able to keep my original one in case there was a problem

$21.00, shipped.

If you search for a used pcm you need to find the model# of pcm, many are located behind the glove box, open the glovebox, there's a retainer strap on Left side that you disconnect to tilt glovebox out. there is a model# on outside of pcm, like 16212488. If you get a used one, make sure you pull your eprom chip(which holds the specs for your vehicle, engine, tranny, etc...) and install it in the replacement computer before connecting it to the wiring harness. you may have to have the timing set using a tech 2 scanner or similar scanner...
