I am running into some trouble with the installation of the 2pc seal. My impression is the two halve are glued together with a anerobic adhesive, then silicone is used around the main cap corners. The parts store said to use silicone, the package only says to use silicone on the coners of the rear main cap. what gives?

No sealant on the ends of the seals. The sealer to use is an "Anerobic Sealant" usually comes in a small red tube (tube looks like loc-tite tube). This is used on the main cap to block sealing surface on the back half, there is an illustration with the seal, if not we'll find ya one!
Just make sure during your seal installation that you leave slightly less than 1/2" of the block, and the other 1/2" sticking out of the other side of the cap, that way there isn't a gap at the sealing of the cap and the block.
The RTV will be for the pan and the rubber pan seal on the back.

The one piece units fitted to the later engines and the 6.5 are so sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. No leakies there. The old rope seals the 6.2 came stock with early on were such a pain

I finally found the time to start this and was disappointed when I pulled the rear main cap, the bearing has the backing beginning to show in one spot. I pulled the rest of the main caps and they all havea minor amount (10%) of bronze ( I'm guessing) backing showing. So at this point it looks like I should have the crank polished and replace all the main bearings and the rod bearings as long as I'm at it, oh well. Anyhow thanks for the help on the seal installation, it made more sense once I diassembled the existing and saw the seal off set from the parting line, to keep the seal seam out of the direct path of the oil...........more later
