Recently I have discovered that our 93 GMC K3500 diesel will be needing a new fan clutch. I have check around and was wondering what is the difference in the 93 and 97 fan clutches? Other than the 6 bolt to 4 bolt patteren for the fan. The reason I ask is because the one for the 97 is like $70 and the 93 is over $200. I have got the duramax fan blade but will the 97 clutch work ok on this truck? One more thing someone on ebay shaves off about a 1/2" on all the duramax fan blades to make a better fit. Does anyone know how he does this?

the fan - earlier one bolts on, later one screws on?
Clearance on the D-max fan - most shave the clearance on the Fan Shroud - not the Fan itself. ( and evidently not always a problem. )

The main two differences that I can think of between the different years of clutches is the fan (6 verses 4) and the hub being either bolt on or screw on.
If the clutch for the '97 is way cheaper and you already have the dmax fan, go for the '97 clutch, as it will bolt to your waterpump already.
