I was thinking of switching to a 6.2/6.5 powered 2WD pickup for a DD and commuter vehicle.
Yes, while other vehicle would make for a better commuter ride, such as a VW TDI Jetta, I have always preferred trucks.
I like to situp and see around like only you can in a truck.
I like a truck ride and I like the ability that if needed, I can haul or tow.

What kind of mileage can a person expect from a 6.2/6.5? in the low to mid 20s?

Comments, opinions and flames are welcome.

Hi,

I agree with your reasons for wanting a truck for a daily driver.

I myself have a 1988 C1500 with a 6.2, I have been tracking the mileage the last month and I have been getting about 22 MPG. That is a combo of some in town driving and mostly highway miles-1769.6 miles total.

I still have the stock EGR intake on it though and the stock air inlet tube. I am gathering the parts to put in a high flow intake system and I hope to see a bit of improvmentin mileage with that modification.

I've been getting 22-23mpg with my 82 commuting, which is mainly highway driving 65 to 75 mph. My truck has 3.08 gears which makes it a good highway cruiser. I'm still running the stock air/exhaust setup.

Hope that helps.

Joe.

Our 82 Suburban with 3.73 and 700R4 gets 22 mpg at 65 mph average freeway speed. A lighter pickup with numerically lower gear ration should do even better.
