View Full Version : Towing question
Guys,
Am I asking for trouble towing a 12000# trailer with the vehicle in my sig? It has 165k miles on it. Except for an IP at 120k, its all original.
You need to let us know if this is for just a one time short trip, a frequent puller, or? Level ground short trips you should be fine. Big hills will definitely have you in the slow lane.

The GVW for you Sub should be 8050 lb. since it is a 1500. You get most of the heavy duty stuff, but have a light frame. I'd be concerned about gross combined weight.
You're pushing the envelope a little, but it'd be OK except for the 3.42 axle. Any hills are gonna kill you!
I am afraid even if you stay on the Island, traffic will slow you to a crawl, your trans temperature will top 250 degrees the hole trip.
My rig total 16,540# and if I can't keep the convertor locked I see temperatures above 250 in a few minuites. Normal summer trans temperature is 150 as I have mine setup.
Another limitation will be braking. If the trailer won't stop itself your truck will not stop it.
