3500 with 5-speed transmission question

are the 5-speed transmssion the same on
four wheel drive & two wheel drive ?

(i found a parts truck with a new transmssion that i'm thinking of buying)

You will need the tailend piece, which is different between the two.

[edit]Mis-read - thought you had said NV4500. Not sure about the NV3500.

one truck is a 96 3500hd (2wd)
one truck is a 96 3500 (4wd)
not sure is either is nv3500 or nv4500

The 3500 should have a 4500, at least my 96 4x did. I do not beleive teh 3500 could handle teh torque etc of the 6.5.

If you can find a 92-94 IIRC, teh NV4500 has a lower 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear from the later models, if you need a bit more low end, or you can rebuild the later models with the lower gear sets. Later has a 5.64, vs about a 6.34 IIRC on the earlier models.
