Warranty? Depends on when the vehicle was first placed into service. The engine warranty covers defects for 5 years or 100,000 miles. A 2001 model first purchased sometime after today's date in 2001 would be covered.
Always postively eliminate an external leak or water pump leak (also external) before suspecting a head gasket or injector cup seal problem. Those who have worked on these engines indicate a slow loss of coolant over time could be due to a leaking injector cup seal. Sometimes removing the glow plugs after an overnight shutdown can reveal these sorts of leaks. One of the glow plug tips could accumulate water mist/beads from such a coolant leak.
