Serpentine belt replacement

Is there a recommended mileage/engine hours for serpentine belt replacement or is it done "on condition". Thanks, Andy

PER TSB 04-06-01-013 dated 4/29/04 GM says vehicles designed and manufactured in North America use serpentine belts made with an EPDM material and should last the life of the vehicle. They further state that it

Have you heard any squeaking and such from under the hood as the belt tensioner might do? Just wondering. I lost my brakes and steering after start one day and after a restart it went away. I'm just curious if maybe it was the belt tensioner vs. the pressure by-pass valve in the power steering valve.
