Hello friends,
Been a while since I have lurked around in the 6.2 forum (usually lounging around the DMax forum). Anyway, I wanna get back in the 6.2 business for a everyday truck and keep from racking miles up on my dmax. Anyway, I have found a 1986 Chevy 4x4, that is a nice truck, but has a bad 6.2 engine. I have access to a rather cheap 1983 or 1984 Chevy that has a 6.2 that is 2 wheel drive with a good engine, but the body is rusted badly and the transmission just when out. My question is, will the 1983/84 engine bolt right up to the 1986? I understand glowplug harnesses/controller might be different, but other than that, is there more things I need to be aware of? Thank you and Happy 4th!

Trick question!

Just kidding, the 83 will be more different than the 84. So, to know what you'll be up against you'll need to know which year it is.

For an 84, just change over harnesses and you'll be ok. For an 83, you will need to change out the fuel pump hard fuel lines on the engine.

This is because the 84 shares the same fuel filteration methods as the 86, where as the 83 has a different setup on it, using two filters verses one.

Be glad to have another 6.2 going!

Thanks for the information! I was assuming some fuel/electrical changeovers may need to be done, but wanted to make sure. Happy 4th and thanks again.
