I have a 99 sub. that is bone stock and has about 110,000 miles. The cooling fan seems to work fine as on hot days it will engage and the coolant temp never goes much over 185. My question is that when the engine is cold, the fan is engaged for the first minute of so of driving (loud roaring). Is this normal or is it a warning that the clutch is going away?

This is normal. The fluid that causes the clutch to engage puddles in the bottom of the housing while the engine sits. This causes a pseudo lockup until the fluid gets redistributed.
