How the heck do you change the #8 glow plug on a 6.5? Do you have to remove part of the exhaust system, or what? I'm sure its been asked before but I can't find it by searching.
TIA,
Ben
I was told that if you remove the heat shield you can get at it. I just changed 7 of my glow plugs and will change #8 when I do the new exhaust.

I was able to change #8 reaching up from underneath the truck without too much grief.
I agree - I did mine from underneath the truck. I used a short extension, universal, and the 3/8" deep socket. Was easy to do with this setup.

I loosened the exhaust clamp to the turbo housing, removed the mud shield in the fender well and reached it pretty easy this way.

I just cut about a 4" hole through the inter fender so you can get your hand in there. When you are done I cut apiece of sheet medal forum it an with two sheet medal screws fasten it paint it black it is not noticeable. The next time if have get in there you there in 30 sec. or less. Hpoe this helps.
#6 has the heat shield as does #4. Removing the shield should allow access to #6.
#8 is accessed best from above. Takes a little finesse, but not hard.
I make it a practice to change #6 plug whenever I do an exhaust install.
I did the plugs on my '96 in just over 1/2hr, but I keep the engine pretty clean...
I also replaced # 8 from above.
I used a 1/4" drive ratchet with a deep socket and reached down behind the turbo.
I have a 3" body lift so don't know if this helps or not.
#6 I have yet to change cause I also installed a Banks 3" exhaust system a while back and turbo down pipe is in the way. I will get to that soon.
good luck...
