ok this was plugged in between my TPS and the harness to the transmission. can you tell me what it might be?

Without knowing why it matters necessarily, I can tell you it's a Diode. A diode will serve the purpose of ensuring that current can only flow one direction. Helps when some circuit is switched off, from powering another circuit.

well i'm guessing it must have something to do with the lockup on the Torque converter. it was plugged in at the tps and the harness going to the tranny. have worked on gassers with the 700r in them and don't remember ever seeing anything like this on them. was wondering why it was there.

I is likely connected across the lockup solenoid coil, and normally reverse-biased, and serves to prevent voltage spikes from arcing across the switch on the IP when it opens to unlock the convertor.

Many automotive solenoids abd relays have a diode across the coil to prevent voltage spikes across switch contacts, or from irritating computers.
