Recall on fuel filter

When I was in the shop for the injector pump I had them do the fuel filter recall replacement. Does anyone know what the problem was? I have replaced the fuel filter 4 or 5 times now so I had them give me a new one under warranty so I don't have to replace it again for a while. Do I have to be careful from now on out with replacements?

The new fuel filter elements are a dual pass design - containing two layers of media. I imagine GM wanted better fuel filtering capability, which may help to reduce fuel injection system problems that may be attributed to fuel quality issues.

All fuel filter dealers (both GM & other vendors) should be offering the newest design, but it might not hurt to ask when placing an order. :)
