Temp.Gauge, Wiper problems,&oil cooler lines

Hi! Just recently started to have these 2 issues. Temp. gauge doesn't move after driving truck - stays below 160 degree mark-goes to 180 after you shut truck off-needle goes right then back to below 160 when you turn ignition on-any thoughts? Also, sometimes when I turn wipers on, they don't move and I hear a slight whirring sound- I opened hood, tapped wiper motor, and wipers worked- faulty motor or module?Oil cooler lines starting to leak-common problem w/ these trucks? They come from front of engine & go to back- leaking engine oil-are they a dealer only item? I checked @ local Napa & they can get an upper & lower for a 6.5 under 12500GVW.Does anybody have a source for these lines or an upgrade? Any help will be much appreciated!Thanks, Bob

Wiper motor, I would replace the unit and eliminate any worries about it, its easy, and its not too expensive from any auto parts store.

Oil cooler lines, I just went through the same thing, had to replace the oil cooler and the lines. Bought everything from the dealer. I see that DSG Canada offers an upgraded kit... you might ask around and see what luck people have had with it..

The wipers are covered under a recall or service campaign. Problem is cracked solder joints on the PC board.


Search this froum for oil cooler lines. There are a number of "fixes" and after market lines available. One I remember is Lubrication Specialists, a DieselPage advertiser. Don't ignore them as there are cases where they blew off and the engine got trashed.

Don't have any suggestions for the temp gauge. Start testing...

My wiper circuit board had a thick coating of red grease on it that had leaked out from the gears. I wiped this off of the two contacts and it worked fine again.

The problem with my temp guage was a bad thermostat. Replaced that with a new one and the problem went away. The thermostat had been stuck open and the engine never heated up properly.

As far as the oil lines... i'm in the same boat as you are. I've noticed an oil leak and i'm pretty sure it's coming from the oil cooler lines. Let me know how you fare on this issue, as i'll probably be replacing them within the month.

Well,got temp gauge working again.Replaced sensor in thermostat housing-gauge still didn't work.Replaced coolant sensor in engine block- gauge now working.Also fixed wipers- bought new pulse board from Napa for around $22 bucks-wipers work fine now. Still need to replace oil cooler lines-I've had them since June!Hope they're right!

an idea from another poster here - I put 3/4" "exhaust style" clamps over the crimps on each end of the lines - 2 at the cooler and 2 by the engine. Reminds me, I need to got under and re-snug, just in case. Got theclamps at a NAPA store.

Interestingly, the 1st 2 I bought were a littler thicker "bolt" and were too snug for the oil cooler, but fit the Tranny cooler lines, so that has 2 clamps. Went back and got 4 more, and there were thinner, just enough to fit the oil cooler lines.

This crudely parallels the oil cooler line fix that More Power wrote up in a Member's article.

napa has to types of 3/4 clamps,
exhaust clamps, and water hose clamps
( if my 67 yr brain rembers right )

Water clamps are cheaper and I think thiner U bolt,

If to tight, a few wacks with a file works...
