View Full Version : Fuel Filter

Yesterday installed a new gm B fuel filter. Drove home with no problems and went out later and truck died. Checked for air in filter and it was leaking fuel like it was not tight. Finally got filter off and O ring was gone. Was after 9:00 pm and could not find one to put on but had one of the old A filters. Put it on and everything is running ok now. Noticed that the B filter is about 1" longer than the A filter. Was wondering if this could be a problem, or do I need to change to a B filter as soon as possible. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. I have a 05 lly cc dually.

Why wouldn't you have simply "borrowed" the oring from the A filter?

If the fiilter you are running is the dual media I wouldn't worry about it. I sent all of my single media units back when the duals were released...

Our dealers would not take the A filter back. I did not put the B new filter in because I thought the threads could be stripped. Do I need to change this A filter now or can I wait a while. Any help would be appreciated.

First I would have a talk with the guy who forgot to put the O-ring on. Next I would remove the old A filter and use that O-ring to install the new filter (once you've inspected the threads to see they are not stripped).

I don't know, it makes no sense to throw out a perfectly good filter, but on the flip side it's a small price to pay for reassurance...

It's highly doubtful that the threads were stripped or corssed. They are pretty darn big and tough...

Was able to look at filter and it had some cracks in the threads. Took it back to the dealership and they gave me a new one. Old A filter has not leaked at all. Will be putting the new one on in a couple of day. Thanks for the help

there appear to be two available, one from Kennedy Diesel and one from Lubrication specialists.
I think it's a good idea for traveling and using different diesel sources, also to prevent injector problems ('01) while on the road towing RV.
any big difference between the two? recommendations?
also it seems to make sense to install post OEM right?
