Lucky Americans!
In Sweden we have to pay almost twice as much. Today
the price is about 5.70 USD for one gallon of diesel fuel.

Tatraplan:
How much of the cost is taxes?

Most of the price is taxes. I don't remember the
exact tax rate, but more than 60% of the pump
price is taxes. We even pay VAT on the fuel tax,
since the tax is added to the net price of fuel and
VAT i added last of all.

i read somewhere that you all sell most of your natural oil resources. damn funny thing to do.
i read somewhere that you all sell most of your natural oil resources. i guess the parlimentary treatment doesn't discriminate. even the tastefully refined get screwed.

I just got back from a road trip from Dallas to the Gulf coast, and I was struck how much cheaper diesel was once you got out of the city and onto the highway. In Dallas we have a dedicated sales tax that goes for rapid transit, but that only accounts for a penny (or a half penny I can't remember which) per dollar of sales. It seems like diesel was like 10 cents per gallon cheaper out on the highway.
It's been a week since I've been back so fluctuations in the price of oil since then may be part of it, but I saw diesel in town today for $2.59 per gallon. I remember buying it in Mississippi last week for $2.43.

gouging the consumers. Now, we all know that Diesel is the lowest in cost to refine. However, why do we pay 60 cents more per gallon in southern California than unleaded?! I just paid $3.03/gallon for Diesel II.

Here in Kelowna, BC, we are paying 97 cents a liter or around $4.40 can. a gallon. When I took a trip to Edmonton a few weeks ago, outlying gas stations where selling diesel for around $3.50 a gallon. And we produce most of our own fuel.

I'm still trying to figure how two stations from the same company can be only 5 miles apart and have $.24 difference in price.

Same thing here. I paid $2.59 last night. I could drive 3 miles and pay as much as $2.99 if I want to. And the stations all claim that they are not making any profit on their fuel sales...
