I was wondering if anyone knows if the front drivetrain is static when the 4x4 Silverados are in 2WD.

Years ago I put a lock out kit on my 78 Blazer because all 2WD did was disengage the transfer case.

Thanks,
Mike

The center carrier disconnects. The axles still turn (no load on them), but the shaft is static. Not really anything to be concerned about. Mileage differences between 2wd and 4wd is minimal, and can be just as likely due to additional weight as to parasitic load. IMO, it is better to keep the front end with some internal motion to keep seals and metal surfaces lubed. The GM 4X4 IFS front ends have proven to be very durable, and reliable. Some issues have surfaced, but none even close to the "givens" with the alternative.
