If i bought a 2001 k3500 crew cab, drw, dmax with the allison, how much better would the fuel milage be over my 6.5 set up. This truck (.THE 01)had injectors warrenty at 98k and has 145k on it now. Beautifull rig, well cared for.

I spent 10,000 on fuel last year at a average of 2.50 a gallon.
12 mpg in 48,000 mi.

Mostly towing miles bout 75%, 14 to 15k average, sometimes 20 to 23k.

See my sig, the 6.5 has bout 51k on a splayed main 18:1 motor, truck has 271k on it and every thing has been done to it, it is in great shape, so the only way i can justify moving up and moving on is to take a look at fuel savings.

I have it figured approx for every 1 mpg increase = 1,600 a year back in my pocket. A 2 mpg increase almost makes the payment.. See whear im going. I just dont have any idea what a dmax would get for mi.

Thanks in advance for your input. / Kent

Not able to help you on a 2001,but my 6.6 gets about two miles per gallon more than the 6.5.Sure tows a trailer much better.

While your results may vary, you can take a look at a discussion concerning TDP's Project 6.5 (http://www.thedieselpage.com/finale.htm). In that page, you'll see a fuel economy comparison between it and a 2001 2500HD D/A in fuel economy over a 4500 mile road trip, where both trucks towed a similarly sized travel trailer and ran together the whole way.

Mark Rinker would be the guy with the answers as he has both. From what I gather, the 6.5's stay parked. Now keep in mind, his 6.5's were not hopped up like yours, but they weren't stock either...

P.S. Mark's 2001 Dmax is regular cab single wheel.
