Reset security code on Radio?

Had two new batteries put in my 98 ( first repalcements, OEM's lasted 8 years
two months !) and in the process lost battery power. The security was enabled on the radio, and now it is locked. Forgot the passcode, anyone have any idea how to reset? Other than taking to dealer. I know there used to be an article on how to do this, but am unable to find.

Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Same thing happened to me a while back. I phoned the G.M. Service Line and after about 2 minutes they provided me with the required code. be sure you have your serial number when talking with them if you call. i wrote the code down and have it in the glove box for the next time it happens.

Phoned the number for GM service, was told they don't give out the code, take it to the dealer. Rats.. ah, well.
