My brother has a 91 sub which has a 454 engine. I was wondering if the serpentine belt system from a 91 sub with a 454 would convert over to a 6.5 engine? We are going to install the 6.5 N/A into the 91 sub (thanks John).
I have read a few posts about converting an engine to work with a serpentine system but never an original set up to work with a engine swap.

Thanks again, Paul

I don't believe any of the mounting holes in the block and heads for the various brackets would coincide.

The suburbans were oddballs when it came to belt systems.

The trucks had v-belts on the 6.2 from 82-87 (1/2 3/4 1-ton)
The trucks in the new body style with a 6.2 from 88-93 had serpentine.
The suburbans had v-belts on the 6.2 from 82-91
The Crew Cab 1-ton trucks (old body style) had v-belts from 82-91 as well.

So, to make the installation more OEM, use the V-belt setup off the '85, which is identical to what was used on a '91 6.2 in a suburban. Same a/c compressor, same power steering pump, etc.

You could convert to serpentine, but you'll need the accessories off a 6.5 (new body style). I'm like Bob, I don't think that the 454 accessory brackets are gonna work. But if the engines are sitting on an engine stand, it's worth a look (just for grins).

I swapped a 6.2 out for a 454 in my less informed years (before I found this page) and I can guarantee you the brackets do not interchange.

Sorry to be the party pooper.

I have done the swaps on both the 454 and the 6.2/6.5
The 454 and the diesels are not even close. Watch Ebay and you can most likely score a good deal as I did a few months back. I got all the front end drive and accessories from a later 6.5 for my 84 Blazer. All with bolts too for $150.
