View Full Version : Ball joint
I'm sure that you guys can help me. I was rotating the tires a few days ago and noticed that the left upper ball joint boot, or grease seal was leaking chassis lube (Mobil 1). My first thought was to call the alignment shop and make an appointment to have the ball joint replaced. Then I began to wonder if that was necessary (just keep it lubed). If I do decide to replace the ball joint, will the upper control arm also have to be replaced? Thanks

Just cause its leaking grease is not cause for replacement. You can make a brand new one leak if you pump to much grease in her. I would just keep it full of good grease.
I went 10 years with a 1/4" slit in the boot on the upper left ball joint. It think it was the only one I didn't have to replace...
Thanks for your response. I have made it a habit to put three or four squirts of grease in all of the zerks at every oil change, every three thousand miles. I'm probably over lubing. I think I'll let it go until the joint needs to be replaced.
