My 1996 6.5 just upchucked it's guts out the overflow bottle last week. Rather than chasing after blown head gaskets and/or cracked heads/block at 220K, I am installing a NEW "506" AM General long block. If memory serves correctly, my old 1996 engine has the small oil cooler line fittings and the new block takes the large fittings. Can anyone tell me if there is an adapter/reducer that will correct this problem? Or is there a better solution? Also, is this the only difference I am going to run into  Thanks, Jim

Order a set of new lines from Greg www.lubespecialist.com (http://www.lubespecialist.com) you won't be disapointed the factory fittings can fail in short order & possibly what went wrong with your buddies engine.

When my '94 broke a crank and was replaced with a '97 longblock, I opted for a new cooler and larger diameter lines. Figured it was cheap insurance.

Only thing I would do different is go with an aftermarket cooler of same or higher capacity, and save the stupid-high dealer price of $250 for the OEM cooler.

My cooler lines are a year old and already have a residue of oil where the aluminum and rubber meet. I checked out Greg's hoses. They really look great. DSG made a great oil cooler a while back but they don't offer it anymore. Can anyone recommend a good cooler?
