Gents,
My buddy is looking into buying an 03' Duramax 4x4 crewcab for approx. $23K. The truck has just over 100k for mileage, and is said to mostly be highway miles. It appears to be taken care of. My question to everyone is, with this truck now being out of the 5/100 warranty, and the injector issue always looming, should he be buying it? Should he skip the LB7 and go for an LLY?

I have an 02' with 45k and a secondary fuel filter on it as of 20K. I'm concerned for my buddy buying this truck with the injector issue that's always in the back of my mind. He's looking to me for advice, and I'm turning to you guys.

Thanks.

The price is in line for the years and miles. There are some great deals out there, compared to only a year ago.

Has the VIN been run at the dealership to verify that the injectors haven't already been done? Remember, it most likely has coverage to 200K miles - not 100K.

I just bought a 135K 2002 ext cab with stock injectors for 19.5K. They ran the VIN and told me I was covered on injector problems to 200K.

A well informed GM service advisor can tell you more.

I thought that all 03' and 04' fell outside the 7/200k injector warranty... I thought it was only 01' and 02'..., has this changed?

My understanding is they have to run your VIN to tell you whether or not you qualify. Couldn't hurt - you might find out lots more about the truck. Before I bought, I found that my '02 got a new rear end at 55K miles. That actually was a plus to me - less componant miles than the 135K on the clock.

From what I read, and I believe it to be true, only the '01 and '02 trucks
are covered to 200k miles for injectors. As the previous person said, run
the VIN and if the truck had the injectors replaced, then I suppose I would
recommend buying it, otherwise, I wouldn't.

Hey for that price, if the injectors are checked out and found to be right on, just buy it and immediately add a secondary filtration system, if they are not willing to check out the injectors for you walk away.
